About This Role

Oversee the safe and proper operation of the Monona Community Pool, including managing staff, supplies, and concession operations. This seasonal role ensures a safe and enjoyable environment for patrons.

Responsibilities

  • Write and maintain schedules for lifeguards, swim lesson instructors, and helpers
  • Assign lifeguard rotations and other staff duties
  • Assist in pre-season and ongoing staff training
  • Coordinate, conduct, and document weekly staff in-service sessions
  • Conduct and document "red shirt" drills and out-of-water emergencies
  • Track employee hours and ensure compliance with labor regulations
  • Address employee comments, questions, issues, and enforce personnel policies
  • Manage inventory, personnel, and operations of the pool's concession stand
  • Address patron complaints, comments, and suggestions professionally
  • Maintain daily logs of water chemistry, weather, and pool activities
  • Ensure appropriate emergency care is provided and document incidents
  • Perform daily checks of pool decks, locker rooms, concession areas, and office areas for cleanliness
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all equipment and supplies
  • Ensure all facility rules and safety guidelines are followed
  • Keep Aquatics Director informed of schedules, changes, issues, and patron concerns

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license
  • Supervisory experience
  • Ability to learn and maintain knowledge of all pool operations
  • Ability to work a varied schedule and occasional long hours
  • Ability to speak clearly and effectively, including using a PA system
  • Ability to react quickly and decisively in an emergency situation
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff
  • Ability to perform basic math functions
  • Ability to effectively write to document issues and reports
  • Ability to multi-task, deal with interruptions, and move quickly
  • Ability to arrive on time for work and meetings
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Supervisory experience required; aquatics or lifeguard experience preferred.

  • Experience supervising teens or young adults
