Support early childhood education teachers by assisting with play-based curriculum activities, caregiving functions, and classroom management for children aged 3 months to 5 years, fostering a positive learning atmosphere.
Responsibilities
- Provide caregiving functions including diapering, napping, feeding, and nurturing
- Assist in maintaining a safe and clean environment for children
- Help organize, set up, supervise, and clean up curriculum activities
- Engage in intentional interactions with children in teaching and learning
- Observe and interact with children individually, sharing observations with staff
- Provide feedback to teachers to support individual needs of children
- Provide input to teachers for parent/teacher conferences
- Use respectful language and positive guidance for children's behavior
- Participate in classroom management to maintain a positive learning atmosphere
- Support implementation of NAEYC and PITC philosophies in all rooms
Requirements
- Minimum of 6 or more units in Early Childhood Education (ECE)
- Knowledge of developmental needs and appropriate learning experiences for children 3 months to 5 years
- Familiarity with child development theory and practice
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand and walk up to 4 hours per day, and to work at child's level
- Demonstrated ability to perform basic computer use (keyboard, mouse, simple data entry, email, internet search, Microsoft Office Suite)
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities
- Ability to work with a variety of clientele using patience, tact, sensitivity and diplomacy
- Fingerprint clearance through the Department of Social Services Community Care Licensing Division
- Proof of current negative TB clearance, up-to-date MMR vaccination, and health screening clearance
- Compliance with State of California or UC Berkeley health requirements for positions working with young children
- Completion of blood borne pathogen training
- Completion of State of CA Mandated Reporter training
- Current Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification or obtained within 3 months of hire
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED minimum educational requirement and/or equivalent experience/training, with 6 or more units in Early Childhood Education (ECE)

- 12 or more ECE units
