About This Role

Manage Event Supervisors and Student Assistants within Event Operations, supervising a team of 15 to 20 student employees. This role ensures effective communication, implements event logistics, and supports the University Union leadership team.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, schedule, and manage daily operations for a staff of 15 to 20 student employees.
  • Train employees in essential duties, customer service, and risk management.
  • Initiate and/or manage staff coaching, discipline, and feedback.
  • Participate in leadership development training.
  • Complete weekly administrative duties like service requests, developing agendas, and conducting staff meetings.
  • Abide by and enforce all ASI and campus security regulations regarding confidential information.
  • Effectively manage internal and external communication outlets.
  • Ensure all area manuals, procedures, and resources are accurate and available to staff.
  • Produce regular reports, reviews, and assessments of staff area.
  • Oversee the set-up, takedown, and concurrent management of concerts, club events, and special events.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled student at Cal Poly with minimum 6 units (or 4 units for graduate students)
  • Exhibit a developed sense of critical thinking, conflict management and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to stay focused while working in a high-volume, fast-pace environment
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to change
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others or independently
  • Ability to empathize and connect with others in an appropriate manner
  • Ability to handle confidential information according to ASI policies and procedures
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Confidence to supervise peers
  • Knowledge of Windows based computer systems (Microsoft Office)
  • Awareness of safety and risk-management procedures
  • Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled student at Cal Poly with a minimum of 6 units (Graduate students must carry 4 units).

Nice to Have

  • Experience in developing and conducting assessments, reporting, and analyzing results
