This role involves conducting asset analysis and preparing metrics for HF Sinclair, focusing on identifying competitive advantages, gaps, and opportunities to set strategic direction. The Strategic Business Planner will lead value creation opportunities by performing economic and business analyses. Key responsibilities include coordinating asset strategy, developing market strategies, and leading cross-functional commercial initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Understand competitive advantages and disadvantages of Company assets to identify competitive gaps and opportunities and help set strategic direction
- Originate, screen, develop and/or lead value creation opportunities consistent with strategic direction by performing economic and business analysis
- Coordinate between point of view and asset strategy to set priorities, actively participate in commercial strategic studies and drive overall timeline for strategic conclusions
- Develop and support market and commercial strategies to improve netbacks and overall competitive position in coordination with the commercial teams
- Help develop dashboards with high quality data leading to analysis of competitive metrics for company assets
- Leverage knowledge and experience to provide recommendations on projects and initiatives
- Integrate and work with refinery and commercial teams to assist in determining projects that economically improve competitive position
- Lead cross functional teams to drive large commercial initiatives and drive to actionable plans
- Build financial models and perform economic analysis with clear understanding of key drivers and sensitivities for capital projects
- Assist with stewarding project process and capital committee preparation
- Participate in regional developments and strategies (e.g. LCFS/Cap and Trade, fuels specification changes, pipeline commitments and tariffs)
- Regularly interface with leadership in commercial, operations, capital projects and corporate finance
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in refining
- Full understanding of refinery asset configuration
- Experience leading a successful project
- Ability to determine and develop multiple approaches to increasing plan profitability and quantitatively evaluating each approach
- Ability to apply risk/reward factors
- Ability to stay abreast of new technology developments and processes
- Proficient with Microsoft products
- Experience with engineering software
- LP, simulation, or modeling software demonstrated experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Familiarity with standards and practices of the specific discipline
- Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations and modeling
- Economic thinker with ability to build trust and influence others
- Advanced Critical and Entrepreneurial Thinking
- Ability to make independent decisions within broad guidelines and policies
Qualifications
- A minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Engineering or related field
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in refining is required. Full understanding of refinery asset configuration and experience leading a successful project is required.
