Sr. Fiber Optic Technician

About This Role

Perform fiber optic cabling and splicing services, from single splice points to large fiber networks, ensuring quality and safety for national network providers.

Responsibilities

• Perform work from a single splice point to splicing and troubleshooting large fiber networks
• Provide new build and maintenance services including splicing preparation, installation, testing and repair of fiber optic cable
• Work in a team environment and independently to troubleshoot complicated networks, diagnose problem areas
• Accurately read and interpret splicing documents, engineer packets and network plan designs
• Interface with customers to discuss job requirements, foresee potential issues, provide technical advice, and troubleshoot problems
• Plan and lead jobs from beginning to end; provide work direction and immediate supervision of junior fiber technicians
• Splice fiber optic cable, single or mass fusion, using fusion splicing equipment in various elements
• Follow required inspection processes and fiber testing using Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDR)
• Analyze and prepare test results for customer presentation
• Document and maintain accurate splicing records and job site notes
• Complying with all safety standards and maintaining company vehicle, inventory, and small tools

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years demonstrated splicing work experience on large fiber networks
• Expert knowledge using Fujikura fusion splicing equipment
• Fully proficient in ribbon splicing procedures
• Expert knowledge using Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDR)
• Knowledge of Google earth files
• Knowledge of Fast Reporter software
• Experience using Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word, SharePoint, and Excel
• Strong problem solving, decision making, analytical skills and organizational skills
• Ability to read, write, understand, and follow written procedures
• Ability to work from an Aerial lift truck and/or ladder
• Ability to use light source and power meters
• Ability to respond to emergency calls outside of normal working hours
• Ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move equipment and objects up to 75 pounds

Qualifications

• Technical degree in line work or fiber engineering or the equivalent in training and/or work experience
• Minimum of 3 years demonstrated splicing work experience on large fiber networks
