Sr Engineer

About This Role

Lead the technical engineering design review process for both external third-party and in-house capital projects at Amtrak. Ensure compliance with engineering practices, standards, policies, and budget requirements, and coordinate across multiple disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Manage the technical engineering design review intake process, providing initial review of design phase documents
• Coordinate with multi-disciplines (track, communications & signals, electric traction, structures) for design review documentation
• Collaborate on building design estimates for technical design reviewer duration and budget
• Develop and apply working knowledge of Engineering Practices, Amtrak business systems, and industry standards
• Coordinate with relevant teams to ensure design review execution aligns with project agreements and timelines
• Report status, metrics, and variances from intake to execution to direct managers
• Assist in mentoring junior-level staff within Amtrak and the railroad industry

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Architecture, Business Administration, or closely related field or 6 years relevant experience
• Strong understanding of the design and submission review process, preferably in a railroad environment
• Ability to research, analyze, evaluate performance gaps, and explain variances

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Architecture, Business Administration, or closely related field
• Minimum of six (6) years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience in lieu of education

Nice to Have

• Proficient in Power BI
• Strong understanding of Amtrak-maintained territory and operation
• Strong understanding of Engineering assets
• Demonstrated experience working with external/third-party projects
• Familiar with design and construction standards, methods, and practices
