About This Role

Lead students toward their intellectual, emotional, social, and psychological growth by planning and implementing instructional programs tailored to individual needs. The Special Education Teacher will assess student accomplishments, provide progress reports, and collaborate with colleagues, students, and parents/guardians to support student success.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement an instructional program to meet individual student needs, interests, and abilities consistent with curriculum goals
  • Guide the learning process and establish clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests
  • Create a purposeful learning environment appropriate to student maturity and interest
  • Assess student accomplishments formally and informally, provide progress reports, and administer testing
  • Serve as a member of the Building Study Team to diagnose learning needs and prescribe special programming
  • Communicate and collaborate with colleagues, students, and parents/guardians regularly
  • Supervise students by upholding school rules, maintaining classroom order and discipline, and addressing inappropriate conduct
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records including student attendance and progress records
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities, and implement emergency procedures

Requirements

  • Proper certification as required by the State of Idaho for the assigned teaching position
  • Capable of accomplishing identified Performance Responsibilities
  • Proficient communication in English (verbal and written) with adults and students
  • Ability to read and understand work related materials
  • Ability to speak and communicate clearly in lessons and with peers, supervisors, patrons, and parents/guardians
  • Ability to accomplish simple mathematical concepts including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Ability to observe and monitor student activities and conduct throughout the instructional day

Certifications

Proper certification as required by the State of Idaho for the assigned teaching position (Required)
