Special Education Teacher

About This Role

This role is for a Special Education Teacher within the Sioux Falls School District, focusing on providing specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities, managing IEPs, and collaborating with a dedicated team to foster student growth.

Responsibilities

• Plan and prepare instructional tasks that are meaningful and related to learning goals
• Implement District curriculum and maintain a strong instructional focus
• Communicate clear learning goals to students and adapt instruction to meet diverse needs
• Conduct ongoing assessments for learning
• Establish appropriate classroom rules and procedures and enforce them consistently
• Participate in ongoing professional growth opportunities
• Communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues, parents, and students
• Case manage student individual education programs (IEP) to meet specialized needs
• Coordinate special education documentation in compliance with district, state, and federal requirements
• Maintain student special education records and related information confidentially

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree
• South Dakota teaching certificate with K-12 Special Education endorsement
• At least one year of work experience requiring interpersonal interaction skills
• Knowledge of strategies to support students with challenging behaviors
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Skills in human relations, leadership, and conflict management
• Knowledge of teaching techniques for diverse student needs
• Skills in computer word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
• Knowledge in implementation of IEP process and special education law
• Training in assessment and interpretation of information
• Youth Suicide Awareness and Prevention Training certificate (within 5 years)

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and endorsements in the areas of teaching assignment
• At least one year of work experience in a position requiring interpersonal interaction skills and knowledge of strategies to support students with challenging behaviors.
