Special Education Teacher

About This Role

The Special Education Teacher plans, organizes, and implements instructional programs to guide and encourage students' academic potential within a learning environment. This role focuses on maximizing student engagement and learning through diverse teaching practices and methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement appropriate instruction of assigned content areas in alignment with school standards, curriculum, and student needs.
• Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that maximize student engagement and learning.
• Utilize a variety of teaching practices and methodologies reflective of diverse student backgrounds to meet individual needs.
• Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures and maintaining discipline.
• Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students, using this information to adjust teaching strategies.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
• Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and needs.
• Attend department, school, district, and parent meetings; participate in staff development and serve on committees.
• Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
• Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
• Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
• Proficiency with computer software, database, spreadsheet and word processing tools
