Special Education Teacher

About This Role

Plan, organize, and implement appropriate instructional programs for special education students to guide and encourage their academic development and fulfillment of potential.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement appropriate instruction for assigned content area(s) in line with school standards, curriculum, and student needs.
• Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials maximizing student engagement and learning.
• Utilize a variety of teaching practices and methodologies reflecting diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds to meet individual student needs.
• Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
• Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
• Implement a clear and consistent behavior management system while developing students’ character and sense of community.
• Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
• Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and needs.
• Assign and grade classwork, homework, tests, and assignments.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
• Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
