Special Education Teacher

About This Role

This role involves planning, organizing, and implementing an instructional program to guide and encourage students to achieve their academic potential in a special education learning environment. The teacher will design and deliver lesson plans, manage student behavior, and communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
• Design and implement appropriate instruction of content area(s) assigned in with the school standards, curriculum, and student needs.
• Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that maximize student engagement and learning.
• Utilize a variety of teaching practices and methodologies that reflect diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds to meet individual student needs.
• Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
• Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
• Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
• Prepare required reports on students and activities.
• Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and needs.
• Attend department, school, district and parent meetings.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
• Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
• Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
