About This Role

The Special Education Teacher plans, organizes, and implements instructional programs to guide and encourage students with special needs to develop and fulfill their academic potential in a supportive learning environment. This role involves designing engaging lessons, managing student behavior, and communicating with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement appropriate instruction according to school standards, curriculum, and student needs.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials maximizing student engagement.
  • Utilize diverse teaching practices and methodologies to meet individual student needs.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment, including relevant technology.
  • Manage student behavior by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures and implementing a consistent behavior management system.
  • Encourage and monitor individual student progress, adjusting teaching strategies as needed.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and needs.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and community members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including attending meetings and participating in staff development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to use effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to use computer including software, database, spreadsheet and word processing software, calculator, copy machine and telephone
  • Ability to analyze data

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
