Contribute to an innovative academic program focused on environmental health research and science policy by conducting analytical studies, assisting with grant submissions, and collaborating with partners. This role involves interpreting, monitoring, and analyzing policies while providing consultative services.
Responsibilities
- Assist in grant submissions including scientific and administrative sections
- Engage with research collaborators and community partners for research and research translation in chemical policy
- Assist in designing experiments, defining variables, formulating hypotheses, and coordinating experimental protocols
- Research, monitor, and analyze chemical regulations, legislation, and related scientific literature
- Research and summarize best scientific practices in chemical risk assessment and systematic review methods
- Adapt new, nonstandard procedures with technical guidance from supervisor
- Interpret, synthesize, and analyze data using scientific or statistical techniques
- Solve problems and make decisions affecting research direction, contributing independently to the project
- Apply standard calculations and formulas to compile data or process documents
- Co-author sections of research publications and regulatory reports as needed
- Translate and communicate the impact of new chemical regulations, legislation, or research to the public and policy makers
- Complete project-related administrative and budgetary responsibilities of a limited scope
- Supervise staff or students as needed, including oversight and instruction on techniques
Requirements
- Comprehensive understanding of scientific theory and methods
- General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs
- Strong analytical skills and excellent judgment
- Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance
- Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work with human study participants
- Expertise in environmental health sciences, public health, occupational health, epidemiology, toxicology, systematic review methods or related field
- Knowledge of and practice in environmental health science and policy in the United States
- Publication track record in peer reviewed literature
- High level of written and oral communications skills for scientists and non-scientists
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Arts degree in an applicable social science related field
- 2 years applicable experience in an applicable social science or combination of education and experience
Nice to Have
- Master of Public Health or Master of Science degree in biological sciences, health sciences, bioinformatics, statistics or an applicable related social science field
