This role is a Skilled Maintainer position within the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), focused on assisting with the manufacture and distribution of wood products for various DEEP programs. It involves operating, repairing, and maintaining facilities, equipment, and grounds at the Portland Complex, occasionally leading lower-level employees.
Responsibilities
- Assist the DEEP Sawyer with the manufacture of wood products including picnic table lumber, signage, sideboards, trailer decking, planking, stakes, weir boards, dimension lumber, and specialty items
- Distribute wood products to DEEP programs such as State Parks, Fisheries, Forestry, Wildlife, and Boating
- Lead lower-level employees in the operation, repair, and maintenance of the Portland Complex facility, infrastructure, equipment, and grounds
- Operate complex motorized equipment and trucks of five (5) ton or greater capacity
- Perform building and equipment maintenance (operational and remedial)
- Contribute to grounds care and specialized landscaping functions
- Assist Qualified Craft Workers or other higher level employees in trades areas
Requirements
- Two years of experience in skilled trades, landscape maintenance, or motor truck/large bus operation
- Considerable knowledge of methods, tools, equipment, materials and procedures of specific trade or work area
- Knowledge of maintenance problems and their proper handling
- Manual and machine operation skills relevant to trade or work area
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Ability to utilize computer software
Qualifications
- Two (2) years of experience in one of the skilled trades, landscape maintenance or vegetable gardening, or operation of motor trucks or large buses.
Nice to Have
- Experience communicating both orally and in writing to stakeholders
- Experience managing conflict in a team environment
- Experience with operating a frontend loader
- Experience in a stationary sawmill and industrial planermill production
- Experience operating diesel trucks of 5 tons or more, loading, and securing material loads
- Experience following directions and working independently
- Experience performing tasks in lumber manufacturing
- Experience with industrial woodworking machinery
- Experience with performing tasks with equipment and machinery maintenance
