Manage maintenance operations for a bus service, ensuring vehicle repair and upkeep meet company, state, and federal standards. Supervise maintenance staff, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and coordinate with other departments to maintain a safe and efficient fleet.
Responsibilities
- Supervise maintenance staff, including hiring, disciplinary actions, performance evaluations, and technical/safety training.
- Check repair orders, inspect completed work, file orders, and communicate vehicle availability with Dispatch.
- Assist in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical problems, and train mechanics on mechanical procedures.
- Arrange building services and grounds keeping, order fuel and parts, maintain inventory, and subcontract repair work.
- Ensure fleet inspections and repairs adhere to STA Policies and Procedures, and State and Federal Regulations.
- Ensure all defects from inspections and driver reports are repaired promptly, and no unsafe vehicles are used.
- Prepare reports on work assignments and conduct quality control inspections on completed repair work.
- Ensure staff maintains accurate and complete maintenance documentation and records.
- Ensure staff maintains a clean, safe shop and handles repairs efficiently and cost-effectively.
- Coordinate work schedules with operations, develop quality control programs, and provide technical advice to other departments.
Requirements
- Knowledge of tools, procedures, technical skills, and safety rules for gasoline, diesel, and alternative powered equipment.
- Ability to operate a PC and learn software applications.
- Knowledge of Federal and State regulations including EPA and OSHA.
- Operational knowledge of motorized gasoline, diesel, and alternative fueled vehicles, shop equipment and tools.
- Ability to schedule and set priorities for work.
- Ability to inspect equipment and diagnose mechanical defects.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to operate all shop equipment and supervise other maintenance staff.
- Ability to pass state and/or federal required Background Checks and DOT regulations.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent supplemented by specialized vehicle and equipment repair courses.
- Two to three years’ experience as a Technician in school bus, trucking, or heavy equipment environments.
