This role involves designing, fabricating, qualifying, and deploying sophisticated system-level nuclear weapon testers for the Stockpile Surveillance Program. The engineer will ensure the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear arsenal by innovating and designing cutting-edge equipment, collaborating with experts, and capturing critical data.
Responsibilities
- Innovate and Design cutting-edge equipment that emulates nuclear weapon delivery sequences in a controlled laboratory environment
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technologists, and subject matter experts to achieve project goals
- Develop advanced data-collection systems to capture a wide range of normal and exotic signals generated by the tester or a unit under test
- Customize solutions by defining and designing custom cables, boards, chassis, or racks tailored to specific project requirements
- Integrate and troubleshoot tester systems that monitor the health of the U.S. Stockpile, ensuring optimal performance
- Validate tester designs against customer requirements, ensuring compliance and functionality
Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance and Sigma 15 access (may require a polygraph)
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience
- 5+ years of directly relevant experience demonstrating knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development
Nice to Have
- Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a highly related field with an independent research project (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation)
- Ability to work independently and collaborate well in a multidisciplinary team
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to develop and present clear and compelling briefings
- Active DOE Q clearance or equivalent
- Proficiency in analog and digital circuit design and analysis
- Hands-on experience designing and fabricating custom electrical assemblies
- Experience creating and interpreting design definition drawings, including wiring and power distribution diagrams
- Experience using common electrical laboratory equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, arbitrary waveform generators)
- Demonstrated commitment to working safely in a laboratory environment
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to comprehend and synthesize large amounts of information
