Senior WiFi & Switch Engineer

About This Role

Lead the design, implementation, management, and troubleshooting of wired (switching) and wireless (WiFi) network infrastructure for eBay's Global Connectivity Services Team, ensuring reliable and secure connectivity across corporate and remote environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and deployment of new wired and wireless network solutions, including access points, wireless LAN controllers (WLCs), routers, and switches
• Install, configure, and maintain network equipment from various vendors (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Juniper Mist, Meraki), ensuring all configurations adhere to design specifications and guidelines
• Monitor network performance proactively with tools like SolarWinds or Ekahau to identify and resolve bottlenecks, ensuring optimal performance and reliability
• Provide high-level (Tier 2/3) technical support and troubleshoot complex network issues, including connectivity problems, routing errors, and performance degradation, to minimize downtime
• Implement and enforce robust network security measures, including firewalls, security protocols (WPA2, 802.1x), and access control lists (ACLs) to safeguard data and systems
• Conduct physical site surveys (using tools like Ekahau) to determine optimal placement of WiFi infrastructure and perform RF (Radio Frequency) analysis to ensure adequate coverage and capacity
• Create and maintain detailed design documents, network diagrams, configuration guides, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all network infrastructure
• Collaborate with multi-functional teams (e.g., security, systems administrators) and external vendors to plan and implement network upgrades, patches, and technology migrations

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in network engineering with focus on wireless and switching technologies
• Extensive experience in troubleshooting wireless networks
• Strong knowledge of WLAN standards 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax, RF design, and WLAN fundamentals
• Advanced understanding of networking protocols, including TCP/IP, VLANs, STP, OSPF, BGP
• Hands-on experience with enterprise-grade networking hardware from Cisco (IOS, NX-OS), Juniper, and Meraki
• Familiarity with network management and analysis tools (Ekahau, SolarWinds, Wireshark, Splunk)
• Knowledge of network security practices, firewalls, and authentication protocols (RADIUS, 802.1x, EAP-TLS)

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
• 8+ years of experience in network engineering, with specific focus on wireless and switching technologies
