Senior Substation Electrical Engineer

About This Role

Provide engineering support for the design of substation facilities for 69kV and above, working within the Power Networks team. This role involves designing and analyzing new switchyards and substations, preparing specifications and engineering drawings, and performing various electrical system studies.

Responsibilities

• Perform substation physical design including overall engineering and analysis for new switchyards and substations, additions and modifications
• Prepare specifications and provide procurement support
• Prepare engineering drawings including site plans, plan and elevation views, grounding, conduit, lighting, lightning protection and shielding, control building arrangements and details, AC station service, DC systems and Bills of Material
• Perform auxiliary electrical power system studies including load flow, short circuit, voltage drop, protection and coordination, ampacity, and battery sizing studies
• Perform substation grounding calculations and studies, lightning protection and insulation coordination, lighting, bus calculations, transformer and bus sizing calculations, fault calculations, and AC and DC auxiliary system sizing calculations
• Perform proposal preparation, proposal estimates, and provide input to scope documents and client presentations
• Responsible for the quality assurance of the documents to applicable Worley and client standards and proper document management procedures
• Collaborate with project managers, drafters, civil/structural engineers, and field personnel
• Perform independent audits and reviews of technical work
• Mentor and guide junior engineers
• Travel to job sites to perform site walkdown

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
• 8 or more years of experience in substation design
• Experience with power system modeling and analysis tools (e.g., ETAP, CYME, SKM)
• Sound knowledge of fundamental requirements of electrical engineering and basic requirements of other engineering fields
• Sound knowledge of applicable local and international standards and statutory and regulatory requirements
• Competent use of MS Office Suite
• Substantial technical and practical experience in electrical engineering in the same or similar industry including experience in working in multi-disciplinary projects and teams
• Experience in estimating project costs and writing proposal content
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills

• 8 or more years of experience in substation design
