About This Role

The Senior Scientist, Mass Spectrometry will utilize extensive mass spectrometry knowledge for discovery and early-stage development applications, focusing on proteomic biomarker discovery and targeted assay development. This role is crucial for advancing the understanding of diseases and drug development at Insmed.

Responsibilities

  • Independently develop LC-MS/MS assays for protein target quantitation using robust sample preparation and method qualification in biological matrices.
  • Perform unbiased proteomic experiments for biomarker discovery, including experimental design, sample preparation, high-resolution mass spectrometry data acquisition, bioinformatic data analysis, and results interpretation.
  • Expand sample preparation workflows to include affinity-enrichment and offline fractionation approaches for identifying and characterizing low-abundance protein analytes.
  • Identify and employ complementary bioanalytical techniques (ELISA, MSD, Western-blot) to better understand biological results.
  • Contribute to the routine analysis of therapeutic protein candidates, including peptide mapping, intact/native protein analysis, data acquisition, and reporting for research projects.
  • Assist in lab maintenance and housecleaning, ensuring optimum instrument operation, readiness, proper waste disposal, sample inventory, and strict adherence to safety protocols.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry or a related scientific discipline
  • Strong focus on proteomic analysis using HRMS and QQQ mass spectrometry platforms
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in applying advanced mass spectrometry techniques for both unbiased protein biomarker discovery and targeted protein quantitation by LC-MS/MS
  • Experience with broad sample preparation methodologies, automation, and instrumentation (Thermo, Sciex)
  • Ability to create and perform SRM/MRM experiments on QQQ instruments
  • Experience with LC-MS operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Strong knowledge of ligand-binding assay development, application, and translation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and a collaborative spirit
  • Experience with documentation of scientific data, scientific writing, and presentation of research findings
  • Strict adherence to environmental, health, and safety guidelines

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry or a related scientific discipline
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in applying advanced mass spectrometry techniques for both unbiased protein biomarker discovery and targeted protein quantitation by LC-MS/MS.

Nice to Have

  • Strong knowledge of chromatographic separation (SEC, SCX, HpHRP)
  • Knowledge of electrophoretic (CE, SDS-PAGE, IEF) and biophysical interaction (SPR, BLI)
  • Experience with metabolomic and lipidomic analysis
  • Experience with Top-down and native MS
