About This Role

Lead protein engineering efforts to expand biotherapeutic possibilities for patients with serious diseases. This role involves designing, engineering, and preclinical characterization of biomolecular scaffolds, working within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Construct recombinant systems encoding protein variants and combinatorial protein libraries
  • Conceptualize, construct, qualify, and implement high throughput screening platforms
  • Conduct precision protein engineering to achieve specified design objectives
  • Devise, optimize, and employ tailored protein expression and purification strategies for drug discovery programs
  • Develop, qualify, and deploy quantitative functional assays to characterize protein performance in vitro
  • Assess therapeutic candidate performance using in vivo models
  • Contribute to collaborative prioritization and decision making on prospective discovery and development programs
  • Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely records of methods development, experimental data, and data analysis
  • Participate in cross-disciplinary mentoring and training within the RDL NH team
  • Present scientific results to the RDL NH team, Insmed research department, and external scientific community

Requirements

  • Deep technical understanding of, and hands-on experience with, molecular biology, recombinant DNA technology, protein mutagenesis, and protein biochemistry
  • Expertise with recombinant protein expression and purification
  • Expertise with routine protein characterization methods including but not limited to spectroscopy, SDS-PAGE, western blot, ELISA
  • Experience with protein-protein binding analysis
  • Proven track record in experimental methods development, including experimental design, execution, and evaluation

Qualifications

  • PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology, bioengineering or related field, or MS degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, bioengineering or related field
  • 5+ years of experience with PhD or 9+ years of experience with MS in biochemistry, molecular biology, bioengineering or related field

Nice to Have

  • Experience with enzyme analysis
  • Experience in high throughput functional screen development for protein libraries
  • Experience with lab automation
  • Experience with next-generation sequencing
