Senior Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineer

About This Role

This role involves working independently on various plumbing and fire protection engineering projects, from concept creation and design development to problem resolution and client interaction. You will apply your expertise to support the design and manufacturing of pharmaceutical, biotech, and animal health facilities.

Responsibilities

• Assign and review the work of the project design team
• Monitor work progress and alert Project Manager to scope changes or additional services
• Attend pre-bid meetings and assist in evaluating commercial proposals
• Assess project requirements, break into tasks, and determine scope of work, budget, and staffing with Project Manager
• Write plumbing and fire protection design scopes of work based on client reviews
• Develop design concepts and prepare documents during the design development phase
• Correct and update design documents
• Develop solutions to design problems
• Prepare engineering studies and schematic designs for new systems and analyze existing systems
• Use computer-aided design technologies for sketches, drawings, and construction documents
• Review drawings and documents for compliance with company design and production standards
• Coordinate with equipment suppliers/vendors to obtain necessary design information
• Interact with clients regularly to secure scope and design intent
• Ensure quality levels and coordination of work to reflect design intent
• Coordinate project document completion internally and externally with clients and other design professionals
• Coordinate design work with related engineering disciplines
• Attend job and construction meetings and participate in work coordination
• Contribute to annual performance reviews for assigned staff
• Assist in the education and development of design staff and act as a resource

Requirements

• 8+ years of Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineering and Design experience
• Bachelor of Engineering Degree or relative trades experience
• Registered Professional Engineer (PE)
• Experience working for an Architectural and Engineering firm (A&E)
• Proficient in computer-aided design (CAD) operations
• Knowledge of all aspects of plumbing and fire protection systems (e.g., Sanitary and Vent, Storm, Process Waste, Lab and Vent, Domestic Water, Process and Lab Gas, Sprinkler Design, Wet/Dry/Pre Action Systems)
• Ability to produce calculations for plumbing and fire protection systems
• Demonstrated ability to manage projects, problem solve, communicate effectively and time manage

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Engineering Degree from an accredited University or relative trades experience
• 8+ years of previous Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineering and Design experience
