Lead the launch and day-to-day operations of a high-complexity molecular genetics laboratory in Atlanta. This hands-on role involves managing a skilled team, ensuring compliance, and scaling genetic testing services.
Responsibilities
- Own day-to-day operations of a CLIA/CAP-accredited, high-complexity molecular genetics laboratory
- Lead, train, and support molecular laboratory staff including scheduling, onboarding, competency, and performance feedback
- Plan daily and long-term workload, resolving technical and procedural issues to ensure smooth lab flow
- Step in at the bench when needed and model best practices for the team
- Build, maintain, and continuously improve the laboratory quality management system
- Ensure testing meets analytical performance standards and results are accurate and timely
- Lead QA/QC programs across pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases
- Prepare for and support inspections, audits, and ongoing compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
- Oversee instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, documentation, and compliance records
- Review, write, and update SOPs and laboratory forms in alignment with policy and regulatory standards
- Research, validate, and implement new assays, technologies, and instrumentation
- Use the LIS to design efficient workflows and reporting that support sample processing and quality oversight
- Track and report operational, quality, and performance metrics for laboratory leadership
- Manage inventory and vendor relationships to ensure uninterrupted testing operations
- Partner closely with the Laboratory Director, clinicians, and executive leadership
Requirements
- BS in Science or a related field
- MLS or MB certification (ASCP)
- 5–7 years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist
- 1–3 years in a supervisory or leadership role
- Hands-on experience in high-complexity molecular and/or genetic testing environments
- Experience with variant curation and next-generation sequencing workflows
- Strong communication, organization, and people-management skills
Qualifications
- BS in Science or a related field
- 5–7 years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, including 1–3 years in a supervisory or leadership role
