This role is for a Senior GIS Database Administrator responsible for managing, designing, and optimizing database schemas and architectures to support data-driven decisions and meet security standards. The position requires residing in Tallahassee, FL, and working onsite.
Responsibilities
- Ensure application and processing architectures, data dictionaries, and database schemas meet department standards for data requirements and GIS Services
- Assist in the design, development, amendments, and optimization of schemas to meet system requirements
- Develop database and warehousing design across multiple platforms and computing environments
- Collaborate with the team to develop an overall data architecture that supports Department’s needs and meets Florida Digital Services (FLDS) security standards
- Perform daily operational and database administration activities
- Plan, design, and implement support for database structures
- Conduct database performance monitoring and tuning
- Develop and maintain database administration procedures and documentation
- Perform SQL, Oracle, and PostgreSQL Code reviews
- Assist with training/mentoring other technical staff
Requirements
- US Citizen
- Ability to view classified government information
- Lived in the US for the past 5 years
- 5+ years combined experience in database administration
- Experience with GIS and spatial databases (PostgreSQL and Oracle)
- Experience with SQL Server 2012 and above
- Experience with Oracle 19c and above
- Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of relational database management systems
- Ability to work independently in technical analysis, evaluation and resolution of large Enterprise database production issues
- Knowledge of Relational Database Management principles, design and practices
- Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of ESRI SDE Geodatabases
- Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and prioritize work assignments
- Skill in accurately estimating time requirements for database analysis and administration tasks
- Skill in customer service
- Ability to work effectively with Project Managers, Business Analysts, Data Analysts
- Ability to analyze processes and workflows to design efficient database solutions
- Ability to prepare complex database specifications
- Ability to design relational databases
- Skill in interpreting and communicating technical information related to computer programming and data processing, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to develop and manage relational databases in accordance with Department’s standards
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field. Or equivalent work experience.
- Five (5) years combined experience in database administration for various database platforms including GIS, spatial databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle), SQL Server 2012+, and Oracle 19c+.
Nice to Have
- Experience with managing ArcGIS for Server, ArcGIS Enterprise, and cloud-hosted GIS services (e.g., ArcGIS Online, Azure GIS integrations)
- Experience with Azure SQL
