Perform semi-professional office and field survey work, drafting engineering documents and conducting various field surveys for the City's Public Works Department. This role supports City Land Surveying, ensuring accuracy in infrastructure projects and designs.
Responsibilities
- Perform a wide range of customer and engineering services and aide for the City Engineers and Engineering Technicians
- Perform extensive design and drafting services for multiple projects
- Research materials, equipment, and supplies for projects and compile all data
- Create, design, and draft base maps for infrastructure upgrades
- Use and operate various computer equipment, software, and hardware to create and modify designs
- Perform field survey and measurement work to ensure accuracy in drawings and calculations
- Gather, compile, and organize various measurements for locations of vaults, manholes, transformers, etc.
- Consult with contract administrators, field crews, and contractors to complete required drawings and designs
- Plot and issue drawings to construction and inspection crews, coordinating work and ensuring access to documents
- Calculate and determine the quantity of materials being used in a project, develop cost estimates, and calculate usage
- Respond to emails, calls, and general questions from customers and construction personnel, defining and communicating engineering standards
- Process, submit, and track engineering paperwork for the department and the City
- Provide technical support for engineering related tasks and perform work in changing areas of assignment
- Train, assist, and support other lower level staff and department personnel, providing education and guidance for programs
Requirements
- High School graduation or satisfactory equivalent (GED)
- Three years of field land surveying work
- Possession of an appropriate, valid class “C” California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License
Qualifications
- High School graduation or satisfactory equivalent (GED)
- Three years of field land surveying work, with an Associate’s Degree in engineering, mathematics, AutoCAD, drafting or related field substituting for one year of experience.
