Serve as a Senior Discrimination Investigator ensuring legal and policy compliance with non-discrimination laws for the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Conduct complex investigations, provide legal counsel, and manage internal complaint processes.
Responsibilities
- Ensure legal and policy compliance with department's obligation to respond to internal and external complaints of workplace discrimination, reprisal, and discriminatory harassment
- Conduct complex investigations into discrimination, reprisal, and harassment complaints
- Handle complex matters including overlap with FMLA, workers' compensation law, contractual bargaining rights, and undue hardships
- Write and review workforce policies ensuring adherence to current case law, regulatory guidance, and statutory requirements
- Serve as primary contact for discrimination-related matters, conferring with the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office and Minnesota Management and Budget
- Provide legal counsel to managers and Human Resources
- Manage key aspects of the department’s statewide internal complaint process
- Recommend informal resolution methods (e.g., mediation) and refer cases
- Determine investigative strategies and processes
- Hire and direct contractors to conduct expert discrimination investigations
- Draft comprehensive investigative reports
- Make findings and recommendations for appropriate follow-up
Requirements
- 3+ years of advanced professional experience applying state and federal non-discrimination law
- Performing complex legal and case analysis
- Conducting all aspects of complaint investigations, including drafting investigative reports and findings
- Providing follow-up guidance to management
- Responding to discrimination complaints
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor degree from an American Bar Association-accredited law school substitutes for one year of advanced professional experience.
- 3+ years of advanced professional experience applying state and federal non-discrimination law
