This role plans and oversees activities and programs for the Madison Senior Center, contributing to the effectiveness of services provided to local seniors. The coordinator manages all Senior Center programs, events, and activities, and assumes the duties of the Senior Center Superintendent in their absence.
Responsibilities
- Compile monthly newsletter
- Create brochures for trips and activity/event correspondence
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate all Center programs, activities, and events (including trips and parties)
- Advertise upcoming events and programs
- Instruct various classes for the Center (e.g., aerobics, ceramics)
- Drive vehicles to transport clients
- Collect fees and make deposits
- Assist with the annual street festival
- Manage ceramics budget and funding, from sales to setting prices, and collect monies for ceramics
- Direct operations of ceramics for all aspects of the Ceramics and Clay program, teaching and assisting seniors in crafting pieces, pouring molds and preparing them for painting
- Answer telephone and greet visitors, providing information and assistance to patrons
- Purchase equipment and supplies
- Assist with monthly clothing exchange and other charitable programs
- Schedule and coordinate monthly movie and refreshments
- Fill in for Senior Center Superintendent in their absence
- Assist Senior Center Superintendent with various projects, tasks and duties
Requirements
- High School Diploma
- Good driving record
- Ability to obtain a CDL license within one year
- Obtain CPR certification within 6 months
- Strong teaching and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of common safety practices and ADA accommodation needs and issues
- Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), newsletter software and Internet skills
- Strong administrative and clerical skills
- Knowledge of office equipment use
- Ability to work independently without close supervision
- Ability to consistently demonstrate a high level of judgment and discretion required for maintaining confidential and sensitive information
- Ability to learn ceramics, kiln and firing techniques
- Strong newsletter editing, developing, layout and writing skills
- Skill in interpreting written instructions, guidelines, policies and procedures, catalogs, ADA requirements, laws and regulations relating to Seniors
- Skill in listening to understand verbal instructions and information
Qualifications
- High School Diploma required. Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.

- Formal training in ADA compliance and senior studies
- Training with ceramic skills and other crafts
