Senior Academic Designer

About This Role

This role involves leading the design and development of high-quality educational content for K-5 Science programs. You will guide a team of academic designers, ensure curriculum standards are met, and collaborate with product and academic design teams to implement solutions.

Responsibilities

• Create and guide team members to produce accurate, error-free, consistent, high-quality products that meet curriculum standards, project scope, and market requirements
• Train, mentor, and provide feedback to Academic Designers on content development guidelines
• Plan and develop content (including prototypes, learning objectives, lessons, videos, and teacher resources) for teacher and student materials
• Manage vendors and freelancers to ensure quality and time expectations are met
• Demonstrate effective organizational and time management skills, including ability to prioritize and multitask in an Agile environment

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in elementary education, literacy, science, or related field
• 10+ years of experience in curriculum development and educational publishing with a focus on Grades K–5
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail
• Highly organized, goal oriented, and collaborative leadership skills
• Knowledge of industry content development practices and standards (NGSS, CCSS)
• Proficiency with MS Office suite, Adobe Acrobat, Smartsheet, and K4/InCopy markup

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in elementary education, literacy, science, or related field
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in curriculum development and educational publishing with a focus on Grades K–5

Nice to Have

• Experience working with Jira to manage sprint backlogs
• Experience building accessible content in digital authoring systems
