About This Role

Perform duties related to the survey, biological monitoring, and control of natural resources at the Glendale Fish & Wildlife Area. This role involves various outdoor and administrative tasks to support conservation efforts in Indiana.

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties related to the survey, biological monitoring, and/or control of property natural resources
  • Assist with the control of invasive plant species and natural area restoration
  • Conduct trail maintenance, brush and tree removal, and signage tasks
  • Maintain and repair property buildings, grounds, and facilities (landscaping, mowing, carpentry, plumbing)
  • Support property staff with inventory, stocking, reporting, budgeting, and administrative duties
  • Answer inquiries and provide customer service to park visitors
  • Implement habitat restoration and management plans for native plant and animal communities
  • Assist District Biologists with fish, wildlife, and vegetation surveys and data collection
  • Interview anglers, collect biological information from fish species, and enter data
  • Assist Wildlife Science Biologists with research and management activities, including surveys and data entry
  • Assist with fish production, stocking, facility and equipment maintenance
  • Monitor activities of visitors using the shooting range and educate on safe gun handling

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or one (1) year of work experience
  • Ability to work afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to wear a DNR-provided uniform
  • Ability to travel to different properties
  • Ability to work in various environments and adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to work around potentially dangerous heavy equipment
  • Ability to lift equipment, tools, or materials up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to sustain periods of strenuous physical activity
  • Ability to carry out assignments with general instruction and limited supervision

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or one (1) year of work experience
  • Entry level role, or one year of work experience, optionally some college coursework

Nice to Have

  • Completion of some college coursework in wildlife management, natural resources, biology, ecology, forestry, and/or related areas of study
  • Ability to understand and apply basic biological principles, ecological variables, plant identification, and invasive plant management techniques
  • Valid driver’s license
