School Social Worker

About This Role

As a School Social Worker, you will provide problem-solving services to children and their families, serving as a case manager and a member of the child study team for educational planning and placement, while providing social history assessment information.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a contributing member of the child study team
• Lead the school's I&RS team (Intervention and Referral Services)
• Develop, write, and oversee/monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) as prescribed by law
• Administer Child Study Team (CST) assessments, including social history evaluations
• Conduct social evaluations of referred and classified students and prepare required reports
• Perform case manager responsibilities pursuant to special education regulations
• Provide counseling services to students on both an individual and group level
• Communicate with parents regarding referral process, academic progress, and social-emotional well-being
• Participate in the planning, scheduling, and attendance of annual IEP and triennial meetings
• Collaborate with outside agencies providing services to students and parents

Requirements

• Master's degree from a graduate school of social work program
• Certified as a NY School Social Worker
• Knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, learning assessment, and therapy strategies
• Understanding of current rules and regulations regarding a child study team and special education
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
• Ability to maintain confidentiality concerning child study team and charter school matters
• Complete a criminal history background check
• Provide evidence of adequate health to fulfill job functions
• Pass the state required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test

Qualifications

• Master's degree from a graduate school of social work program including a supervised social work practicum
