School Bus Driver

About This Role

Safely and efficiently transport pupils while maintaining discipline and performing all activities related to the operation and maintenance of the school bus.

Responsibilities

• Conduct a pre-trip safety inspection of the bus prior to every trip and complete the School Bus Condition Report
• Notify Transportation Supervisor of any mechanical malfunctions, safety hazards, and lateness
• Perform interior bus cleaning duties daily, clean windows and exterior as needed, and refuel the vehicle
• Participate in emergency evacuation drills and instruct passengers on safety regulations
• Adhere to established routes, designated bus stops, and assigned time schedules
• Discharge students only at authorized stops and ensure all students have left the bus at the end of the route
• Obey all traffic laws and mandatory school bus safety regulations
• Report all accidents and pupil injuries immediately to the principal and school business administrator
• Maintain discipline when students are on the bus and report undisciplined students to appropriate personnel
• Exercise responsible leadership when on out of district trips and enforce all regulations against posted school bus violations

Requirements

• Valid New Jersey Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger, Air Brake and “S” endorsements
• Minimum safe driving experience as determined by the board and the NJCAIR abstract reports
• Sufficient mechanical aptitude to diagnose minor problems
• Ability to maintain passenger discipline
• Required criminal history background check
• Proof of U.S. Citizenship or legal resident alien status
