Sanitation Associate I or II

About This Role

Operate solid waste vehicles for the collection and transport of solid waste materials on assigned routes, performing manual labor in waste, garbage, and recycling collection and disposal. Maintain cleanliness and operational success of City facilities while adhering to all safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Proficiently and independently drive and operate solid waste CDL vehicles on assigned residential and/or commercial routes
• Utilize the work management system to document work performed
• Perform manual labor in the collection, disposal, and handling of solid waste, garbage, and recycling materials
• Perform debris removal, salvage, and demolition tasks for various City projects
• Clean and process recycling materials, and maintain the Solid Waste yard and recycling sites
• Manually collect solid waste and refuse material for residents and commercial owners, using heavy equipment to pick up bins
• Clean, wash, and maintain trucks and equipment for next day use, identifying and reporting repair/maintenance issues
• Wear safety apparel and follow all safety protocols and policies
• Communicate and engage professionally and courteously with co-workers and the general public
• Respond to and assist with cleanup efforts after special events, natural disasters, and storms

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Valid Florida Class “B” CDL driver’s license with appropriate endorsements
• One year of experience in the operation of commercial vehicles requiring a Florida CDL Class B

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• 1 year of experience in waste collections (Sanitation Associate I) or 2 years in operating commercial waste collection vehicles (Sanitation Associate II)
