About This Role

Provide direct patient care, administer medications, and manage withdrawal symptoms in a residential treatment setting for substance abuse. This role involves completing admissions, maintaining documentation, and offering emotional support to individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Complete admission procedures including paperwork, orientation, and urinalysis collection
  • Thoroughly search individuals’ belongings and properly dispose of forbidden items upon admission
  • Administer and interpret tuberculosis skin tests
  • Document nursing assessments, treatment plans, physician's orders, and progress notes in individual charts
  • Provide direct care to individuals receiving services
  • Monitor for signs and symptoms of intoxication and withdrawal
  • Provide medically monitored evaluation and withdrawal management in the Detoxification Unit under the Director of Nursing's supervision
  • Monitor for changes in patient condition
  • Maintain a hygienic and safe work environment in compliance with healthcare procedures
  • Maintain all necessary documentation
  • Update and maintain accurate Medication Administration Records
  • Manage and administer medication as ordered by the Medical Director
  • Provide direction to technicians on assigned shifts
  • Develop treatment plans with individuals to address medical issues
  • Provide emotional support through listening, counseling, and answering questions

Requirements

  • Unrestricted LVN license in the state of Texas
  • Current certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens
  • Ability to pass State of Texas criminal background and driving record checks

Qualifications

  • Prefer 1 year of detox, emergency or med-surge nursing experience

Nice to Have

  • 1 year of detox, emergency or med-surge nursing experience
  • Working knowledge of medical detoxification for substance abuse
  • Knowledge of signs and symptoms of substance intoxication and withdrawal including pharmacological factors
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work with a diverse population
  • Strong leadership, team building, and communication skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of American Society of Addiction Medicine placement criteria and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual as it relates to substance-related disorders
  • Knowledge of Code of Ethics for nurses
  • Knowledge of federal drug and alcohol confidentiality law (42 C.F.R. Part 2) and HIPAA
  • Ability to work a varied schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, individuals served, outside professionals, and the general public
