This Research Intern role supports preclinical research projects focused on understanding motor behavior in rodent models, offering hands-on experience in behavioral training, neurophysiologic recordings, and brain tissue analysis.
Responsibilities
- Complete required onboarding trainings and learn fundamentals of preclinical research
- Review IACUC and BAR protocols and become familiar with laboratory operations and safety procedures
- Assist with rodent handling and behavioral training
- Determine limb handedness for reach behavior and operate automated reach box systems
- Perform video recordings for offline behavioral analysis and assist with sleep recordings
- Support behavioral training in post-stroke rodent models
- Conduct kinematic reach analysis using machine-learning tools
- Analyze reach trajectories, success rates, and velocity during recovery
- Assist with neurophysiologic recordings and learn spike sorting of single-unit neuronal data
- Learn transcardial perfusion and euthanasia procedures under supervision
- Perform supervised perfusions and prepare/fix brain tissue for histological analysis
- Conduct histological evaluation of motor cortical and cerebellar regions
- Perform Nissl staining and imaging for tissue assessment
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must have a HS Diploma or GED
- Must reside in the greater Los Angeles area or surrounding cities
