This Research Coordinator supports pre-award administration for the College of Arts & Sciences, providing technical direction to faculty, postdocs, and students on external funding proposals. The role is crucial for managing the significant volume of externally funded research within the college.
Responsibilities
- Analyze funding agency opportunities to identify application requirements and content
- Assist with planning and coordination for gathering required information and data for successful applications
- Create templates, checklists, and timelines to facilitate application efficiency
- Develop accurate application budgets, applying UTK and agency policies for cost allocation and allowability
- Coordinate and review subrecipient documentation required by sponsor and UTK
- Coordinate the strategic development of large proposals (multi-year, multi-investigator projects over $2 million/year)
- Provide rule-driven copy-editing for research proposals
- Serve as a subject matter expert on Proposal Guidelines, fiscal policies, and federal guidelines like Uniform Guidance
- Deliver research-related training (e.g., budget development, effort certification) one-on-one and to groups
- Serve as backup Cayuse reviewer and approver for external funding proposals, ensuring compliance
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree
- Minimum 3 years of experience interpreting and applying federal regulations relative to sponsored research
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office software
- Working knowledge of funding agency-specific guidelines relative to sponsored research
- Superior critical analysis skills with keen attention to detail
- Outstanding, proactive problem-solving skills
- Ability to multi-task, with excellent organizational & project management skills
- Demonstrated ability to work and/or lead within a team
- Superior customer service skills, with strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Minimum of 3 years of experience interpreting and applying federal regulations relative to sponsored research
Nice to Have
- Master’s degree
- Certified Research Administrator (CRA) certification
- Sponsored research experience in an academic environment
- Experience with grant and contract policies of state, federal, private, and non-profit funding agencies
- Knowledge of Uniform Guidance
- Knowledge of University policies and procedures
