About This Role

This Research Assistant Professor position oversees the operations of the Stem Cell Isolation and Xenotransplantation Facility, developing and implementing experiments focused on primary cell analyses and isolation. This role ensures the reliable operation of core hardware and service delivery while supporting research staff and users.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operation and all aspects of the Core Facility under supervision of a Faculty Scientific Director
  • Develop and expand current model/service portfolio based on user need within the Xenotransplantation branch
  • Develop flow cytometry/cell sorting protocols and specialized methods/techniques in collaboration with users
  • Operate and maintain existing analysis/sorting equipment and computer systems
  • Perform and schedule routine and non-routine maintenance, troubleshooting instrument problems
  • Design and implement procedures and protocols for multi-user equipment management
  • Recruit and train new facility staff and users, conducting workshops and creating training materials
  • Manage data storage, backup, and retrieval, and troubleshoot networked computers
  • Work with the Faculty Scientific Director to establish facility priorities and prepare strategic plans
  • Assist principal investigators in technical aspects of research proposal development
  • Oversee billing, prepare reports on facility usage, progress, and resources
  • Provide state-of-the-art advances in technology through workshops and seminars
  • Network with other facility directors and attend departmental meetings for knowledge transfer
  • Provide a safe working environment and monitor safety compliance

Requirements

  • M.Sc. degree in relevant biomedical field
  • Ph.D. with 5+ years of research lab experience
  • 3+ years of direct flow cytometry experience
  • Strong technical background in biological sciences and complex flow cytometry assays
  • Experience of independent operation of a high-speed cell sorter
  • Experience of managing staff
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)

Qualifications

  • M.Sc. degree in relevant biomedical field and Ph.D.
  • Ph.D. with 5+ years of research lab experience including at least 3 years of direct flow cytometry experience
