About This Role

This role involves providing initial triage and intake for individuals seeking shelter, documenting available services, and supporting bed assignments and meal services. The counselor will also engage with guests, maintain a safe shelter environment, and facilitate efficient operations during their assigned shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Greet, communicate and respond to Shelter visitors and guests demonstrating respect and sensitivity
  • Empower shelter guests by providing them with a safe, sanitary, and dignified environment
  • Coordinate evening and overnight activities including bed assignments, meals, and safety assessments
  • Coordinate shelter access through the intake process ensuring all needed documentation is obtained
  • Comply with and communicate all shelter rules, policies and procedures to shelter guests
  • Maintain and update guest files and communicate with other shelter staff through written and verbal reports
  • Build relationships with guests, identifying needs, answering questions, and assisting with problem solving
  • Support guests in times of urgency or crisis to engage with systems of care, including CSO nursing and behavioral health services
  • Conduct room and bag checks, assess for safety, and remove dangerous/illegal items
  • Complete necessary guest intakes and annuals via Electronic Client Records system and update as required
  • Perform various duties depending on shift, such as ensuring proper storage of belongings, adherence to lights out, and performance of daily chores
  • Perform rounds every 30 minutes of dorms and bathrooms, as well as hourly outside to ensure facility integrity
  • Document incident reports when needed
  • Utilize the shift report in Electronic Records system to summarize relevant events of each shift
  • May coordinate and participate in social support groups, such as orientation, house meetings, and activities

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Associate's degree with experience working in the Human Services field
  • Computer proficiency
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or High School Diploma/Associate's degree with Human Services experience
  • Experience working in the Human Services field is preferred for candidates without a Bachelor's degree; Human Services related work or internship is preferred.
