The Registered Nurse Shift Manager uses the nursing process and leadership skills to coordinate staff services for patients during their designated shift. This role ensures patient care is appropriate for the age and developmental level of patients while supporting the Nursing Department Director with administrative duties.
Responsibilities
- Determine staffing requirements to assure safe and competent patient care, considering patient acuity, age-specific needs, staff skill mix, and individual patient care plans.
- Demonstrate flexibility in response to unexpected changes in volume, emergencies, staffing, or schedule changes.
- Assist the Nurse Director with employee evaluations and performance management, utilizing observation, chart review, and patient interviews.
- Monitor the safety of the work environment and maintain unit readiness with regulatory agency compliance.
- Assist Director with schedules, time and attendance, quality improvement projects, reports, documents, and files.
- Support nursing director with timekeeping and verify for accurate records.
- Seek and accept responsibility for committee participation, special projects, and teaching presentations.
- Adhere to practices for pain management with consideration of patient's functional/developmental age, gender, cultural, and personal preferences.
- Delegate patient care tasks to ancillary personnel based on individual competency and scope of practice.
- Perform physical and psychosocial assessment of patients that demonstrates knowledge and consideration of age-specific and cultural differences.
Requirements
- Two to five years acute experience or equivalent
- RN skills as described for designated unit
- Two years of outpatient surgery experience
- Current California RN license
- PALS Certification
- ACLS Certification
Qualifications
- Two to five years acute experience or equivalent, with two years of outpatient surgery experience. Managerial Experience Preferred.
