About This Role

The Registered Nurse on the Intermediate Medical Unit provides professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and treatment according to established standards. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care, acting as a patient advocate, and serving as a unit shift supervisor to maintain effective patient care and compliance with Joint Commission standards.

Responsibilities

  • Complete daily assignment sheets and update patient assignments, including rounding on patients
  • Monitor patient care activities by staff, ensuring completion of tasks like baths and turning
  • Ensure all staff members follow policy and procedure and assist with unit flow including admissions and discharges
  • Troubleshoot problems that arise on the unit and inform management of potential issues
  • Provide shift report to the oncoming charge nurse and ensure change of shift rounds are conducted together
  • Deliver appropriate, competent patient care by utilizing the nursing process to assess, plan, provide, document, and evaluate care
  • Coordinate nursing care planning with a multidisciplinary team and make appropriate clinical decisions
  • Collaborate and direct the healthcare team to achieve positive patient outcomes based on data, research, evidence, and professional standards of care
  • Ensure safe patient care by adhering to policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications
  • Perform patient care and infection control audits, including hand hygiene and central line audits, and resolve narcotic discrepancies
  • Promote individual professional growth by meeting mandatory education requirements and serving as a preceptor or mentor

Requirements

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas, or immediately eligible
  • Basic Life Support certification required within 30 days of employment
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support required within 90 days of employment

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing
  • Three years of nursing experience preferred
