Provide specialized, family-centered health care to children with medically complex conditions, disabilities, and chronic illness within an inpatient unit setting, ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment.
Responsibilities
- Complete initial and ongoing assessments and actively seek assistance to verify assessments/changes noted
- Identify problems (e.g., nursing diagnosis) and add to problem list/kardex
- Carry out interventions defined in policy or individual plan of care as well as prescribed orders
- Maintain working knowledge of routine procedures, techniques, and treatments as defined in policy
- Evaluate interventions against desired goals and seek input on changes
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses, both manually and electronically
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic patient care environment by providing care that follows policies and procedures and is in accord with the Illinois Nurse Practice Act
- Demonstrate Unit specific skills and competencies (e.g, Tracheostomy Certification)
- Assess patient/family readiness to learning and provide patient/family education
- Delegate patient care tasks to other members of team, including assigning responsibilities and evaluating completion
Requirements
- Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Illinois
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing required
- CPR required (American Heart Association or American Red Cross certifications accepted)
