About This Role

This role involves organizing and teaching various recreational activities for diverse age groups and abilities while ensuring safety and maintaining order. The position supports recreational programs through instructional events, facility management, and record keeping.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and teach various sports, games, academics, and enrichment activities suitable for diverse groups
  • Officiate or provide instruction in rules of play for activities
  • Conduct special recreation activities such as arts and crafts, dance, drama, therapeutics, and gerontology programs
  • Preserve order and discipline among participants at designated facilities
  • Conduct group and individual athletic, recreational, instructional, or entertainment activities
  • Assist in organizing and conducting special recreational events, trips, and outings
  • Issue and collect supplies and equipment, ensuring materials and facilities are ready
  • Perform first aid and CPR in case of injury and conduct routine safety checks
  • Coordinate recreation activities for diverse populations (e.g., at-risk youth, persons with disabilities, seniors)
  • Participate in recruiting and coordinating volunteers in recreation programs
  • Keep records, prepare reports, and perform other routine duties using office equipment
  • Participate in preparing publicity for recreation or enrichment activities
  • Provide facility coverage for rentals
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with schools, governmental agencies, and community organizations

Requirements

  • Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions
  • Knowledge of basic recreation, enrichment, and leisure activities
  • Knowledge of rules, equipment, and materials for common sports and games
  • Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR techniques
  • Knowledge of City and Department rules, policies, and procedures
  • Completion of high school, GED, or California Proficiency Certificate
  • One year full-time experience in Recreation or Human Services

Qualifications

  • Completion of high school, General Education Development (GED) Certificate, or California Proficiency Certificate
  • One year full-time experience in the field of Recreation or Human Services
