About This Role

Lead a team of property accountants, managing financial analyses, improving processes, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards for a large multifamily housing owner and operator.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of property accountants, providing guidance and development opportunities
  • Manage accounting and financial analyses including auditing, budgeting, cost accounting, general accounting, and program cost control
  • Improve processes and communicate policies and procedures to team and other departments
  • Apply advanced accounting concepts, theories, and principals to develop solutions to problems
  • Adhere to FASB guidelines, GAAP, company policies and procedures, and other regulations
  • Set department and staff goals based on overall department or company goals
  • Provide advice as subject matter expert in the development of accounting software and property operating systems
  • Supervise assigned staff including hiring, training, overseeing and reviewing performance
  • Perform technical reviews of complex joint venture accounting transactions and draft Accounting whitepapers
  • Assist with quarterly and annual technical accounting analyses and quarter end reporting
  • Represent the Accounting team as the primary contact for explaining current period actual results to outside teams
  • Lead complex Corporate accounting functions including accruals, debt, equity, and cash flows
  • Assist with monthly and quarterly fluctuation analyses and prepare key deliverables for Management team
  • Perform SOX control procedures, including walkthroughs and providing relevant information to auditors

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA designation
  • 6+ years of experience with complex accounting, GAAP and regulatory accounting, budgeting and financial management
  • Proven success with managing a team of finance professionals
  • Confident communicator with the maturity and presence to influence senior executives and business leaders
  • Ability to drive innovation and change
  • Strategic thinking and nimble problem-solving tactics

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 6+ years of experience with complex accounting, GAAP and regulatory accounting, budgeting and financial management.

Nice to Have

  • Experience related to cost allocations and elimination entries
  • Prior experience working in Real Estate or Public Accounting (Big 4) industries
