This R&D Summer Intern will join the Battery Materials Group to develop advanced conductive additives for high-performance lithium-ion batteries. The role involves hands-on experimental support, product characterization, and analytical testing to accelerate next-generation energy storage innovation.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the planning and execution of experiments to produce high quality lithium-ion battery electrode slurries and coatings with various conductive additives
- Assist in the characterization of slurry and electrode properties, including rheology, stability, morphology, peel strength, resistivity
- May be trained to produce battery cells to evaluate electrochemical cell performance
- Analyze experimental data, generate reports, and present results to the R&D team
- Document results in a final presentation or research report at the end of the internship
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in undergraduate/or graduate program in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- University-level experience in a laboratory environment
- Strong focus on lab and chemical safety
- Strong analytical thinking
- Attention to detail
- Willingness to learn
- Experience writing formal laboratory reports
- Computer skills (MS-Excel, PowerPoint)
- 10-12 week commitment
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in undergraduate/or graduate program in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- University-level experience in a laboratory environment
Nice to Have
- Relevant coursework in materials engineering, chemistry, or chemical engineering
- Familiarity with carbon additives (carbon black, carbon nanotubes)
- Understanding of or experience with materials testing, electrode preparation, or electrochemical techniques (cycling tests, CV, EIS)
