This role involves acting as the primary communications liaison for the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors, ensuring accurate and accessible information is delivered to the public. The position focuses on maintaining effective communication between the Board, the community, and the media, playing a vital role in transparent governance.
Responsibilities
- Act as the main point of contact for all public communication matters, ensuring a unified voice and consistent messaging.
- Work with the Chair of the Board to develop and refine key messages, aligning with the Board adopted Strategic Priorities.
- Utilize expertise in effective communication styles and public relations to maximize impact of the Board’s initiatives.
- Coordinate and prioritize the communication needs of each office, ensuring unique messages are effectively delivered to the public.
- Develop tailored messaging strategies that align with goals and objectives.
- Provide support to Board Chiefs of Staff that enables Board members to connect directly with the public.
- Manage media relations and draft press releases that align with the priorities and activities of each office and increase public awareness.
- Make presentations before various groups to promote knowledge and understanding of services.
Requirements
- Four-year degree in communications, journalism, public relations, advertising, marketing, business administration, public administration or closely related field
- Two years of experience in professional public relations, media relations, journalism, or community relations
- Minimum one-year experience providing information to the public as a public relations spokesperson
Qualifications
- Four-year degree with a major in communications, journalism, public relations, advertising, marketing, business administration, public administration or a closely related field.
- Two years of experience in professional public relations, media relations, journalism, or community relations with responsibility for writing and placing news releases or featured articles through social, visual and written communications; which includes a minimum of one-year of experience providing information to the public in the capacity of a public relations spokesperson.
