This is a professional position in the Intake Section of the Arlington County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court Services Unit. The role involves evaluating information regarding children in need of services, complaints in domestic violence cases, and coordinating with various agencies to ensure appropriate services and compliance with court orders for an ethnically diverse population.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate information and make judgments concerning children in need of services but who have not committed a criminal act
- Evaluate information from complaints in domestic violence cases to determine need for emergency protective orders
- Provide information to complainants regarding the court system or other available resources/services
- Divert cases from the court system to appropriate programs when possible
- Research local and state legal codes and determine appropriate legal charges for persons brought into custody
- Coordinate with other County, local, and state agencies and other interested parties to ensure appropriate services are provided and clients comply with court orders
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology, or related field
- 1 year of experience in probation, social work, crisis intervention or family counseling
- 6 months of experience in a legal/court/probation environment
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system including court proceedings
- Knowledge of causes of delinquent behavior and various community resources (substance abuse and mental health counseling)
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology, or related field
- 1 year of experience in probation, social work, crisis intervention or family counseling including at least six months of experience in a legal/court/probation environment. Additional qualifying related experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
