This Principal Scientist role leads drug discovery efforts for New Biological Entities (NBE) by representing the pharmacokinetic discipline on multi-disciplinary project teams and integrating PK and biomeasure considerations into strategy. The role focuses on identifying strategic scientific opportunities within NBE preclinical research and enhancing decision-making through innovative concepts and technology goals.
Responsibilities
- Independently design and perform scientific experiments, developing new methodologies and protocols that contribute to core group goals and reflect expert knowledge
- Direct and oversee experimental design and results of staff in a matrixed environment, supporting Oncology, Immunology, and Cardiometabolic therapeutic areas
- Define R&D team goals and collaborate with scientists within and outside the functional area; assume departmental responsibility as representative on multiple project teams as DDS Lead
- Prepare clear technical reports, external publications, and oral presentations, communicating results to senior-level management in the context of overall project goals
- Demonstrate expertise in a specific project-relevant area or technology, providing guidance to advance projects or evaluate new technologies and concepts
- Effectively collaborate with scientists within and outside the functional area (e.g., therapeutic area biologists, protein engineering scientists)
- Develop broad knowledge in the field of expertise, including interpreting current literature relevant to R&D projects
- Actively support recruitment, mentorship, and development of scientific staff
- Comply with all applicable regulations, ensuring work performed is safe and compliant, and maintaining proper records
- Contribute to departmental administration and demonstrate fiscal responsibility with respect to experiment costs, technology, external collaborations, and travel
Requirements
- Ph.D. with 5+ years experience in pharmacokinetics, pharmacology, biology, or pharmaceutical sciences
- 1-3 years experience leading employees and projects
- Broad knowledge of drug discovery
- Strong practical knowledge of NBE pharmacokinetic principles including design and interpretation of PK studies, ligand binding assays, and biodistribution concepts
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in an interdisciplinary environment
Qualifications
- Ph.D. from an accredited institution, or equivalent, in a related field (pharmacokinetics, pharmacology, biology, pharmaceutical sciences)
- Five-plus (5+) years of experience in a related field or equivalent (pharmacokinetics, pharmacology, biology, pharmaceutical sciences)
Nice to Have
- Research experience in oncology, immunology, and/or cardio-metabolic diseases
- Preclinical PK/PD modeling experience
