About This Role

The Principal Plans Analyst Trainer will enhance the operational effectiveness of the joint force by providing observation, training, and feedback to Joint Force Commanders and their staffs during joint and multi-national training, exercises, and staff assist visits. This role focuses on sharing operational best practices and advancing readiness for crisis and conflict response.

Responsibilities

  • Provide subject matter expertise in functional areas like command and control, inter-organization and interagency coordination, operational law, current operations, planning and assessments, fires, cyberspace operations, information operations, integrated air and missile defense, space operations, intelligence, and sustainment
  • Participate as a member of Deployable Training Teams (DTTs) observing, training, and providing feedback to Combatant Commanders, component commanders, and Joint Task Force commanders and their staffs
  • Ascertain key command challenges at the operational and strategic levels of war and conduct cross-functional analysis of information gathered from joint exercises and training events
  • Understand strategic thought and direction as it guides and is influenced by campaign, deliberate, and crisis planning at the operational level
  • Research national strategic documents, historical exercise documents, real world operations, and interagency and coalition policies, strategies, and plans
  • Conduct trend analysis, understand, and improve battle rhythm processes and staff development of timely decision quality information
  • Act as a subject matter expert and trainer in Planning and Assessment while supporting joint, multinational, interagency, for globally integrated planning and operations
  • Integrate into, contribute to, and provide functional continuity in the Deployable Training Division
  • Mentor, train, and support new Observer Trainers
  • Develop and maintain various reports and documents including Commander's Facilitated After-Action Review (FAAR), Executive Summary Report (ESR), Combined Functional Report (CFR), and input into JLLIS and Joint Doctrine

Requirements

  • Thorough understanding of the Joint Planning Process (JPP) at the operational level
  • Ability to train, observe, and provide feedback to joint force commanders and staffs on deliberate and crisis planning
  • Bachelor's Degree with 10+ years professional/military leadership experience, or Master's degree with 8+ years professional/military leadership experience
  • Understanding of the requirements for staffs to support the commander's decision cycle
  • Willingness to travel worldwide, including hazardous duty areas
  • Active U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 10 years of professional and/or military leadership experience OR Master's degree with a minimum of 8 years of professional and/or military leadership experience
  • Minimum of 8 years of professional and/or military leadership experience with a Master's degree, or 10 years with a Bachelor's degree; thorough understanding of the Joint Planning Process (JPP) at the operational level

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with warfighting and joint functions: Plans and Assessments, Sustainment, Intelligence, C2, Current Operations, Fires, Cyberspace Operations, and/or Space Operations
  • Combatant Command, Joint Task Force, Division, Afloat staff, or Wing staff experience
  • Joint Forces Staff College or Service equivalent
  • Experience with the preparation and conduct of seminars or study groups for flag officers
  • Ability to write and prepare operational orders and plans
  • Experience in the compilation and presentation of lessons learned and after-action review material
  • Experience with operational planning efforts at the operational and strategic levels
