The Principal Planner-Transportation will lead technical planning work for Middlesex County's transportation program, focusing on the planning and implementation of transportation infrastructure and policy. This role contributes to the county-wide strategic plan, Destination 2040, ensuring safe, equitable, and efficient movement of people and goods across all travel modes.
Responsibilities
- Develop transportation and mobility focused plans related to Destination 2040 and Vision Zero Action Plan.
- Prepare environmental documents for transportation projects to comply with State and federal regulations.
- Prepare reports assessing social, economic, and land use consequences of transportation projects and provide mitigation recommendations.
- Prepare clear, sound, accurate, and informative transportation and other planning reports and studies.
- Review, interpret, and analyze complex statistical and transportation systems data.
- Conduct studies and surveys and provide guidance to technical and graphics production staff.
- Oversee, prepare, and present technical briefings, reports, studies, surveys, maps, charts, graphs, and correspondence.
- Review and analyze technical reports prepared by consultants.
- Represent the Office of Planning and coordinate transportation planning activities with other state and local efforts.
- Participate in the preparation of contracts for transportation planning activities; assist in fiscal documentation and monitor expenditures.
- Establish and maintain liaison and cooperative working relationships with other agencies and interested parties.
- Participate in meetings with government officials and other interested parties.
- Supervise work operations and/or functional programs, including recommending hiring, firing, promoting, demoting, and/or disciplining employees.
- Provide guidance and instruction to planning and other support staff.
- Prepare correspondence in the course of official duties.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in planning or a related field
- 7 years of professional experience in a planning discipline
- 3 years of experience in transportation planning
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in planning or a related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
- Seven years of professional experience in a planning discipline, with at least 3 years of experience in transportation planning.

- NJ Professional Planning License
- American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification
