This role involves providing direct prevention education services in community and school settings, focusing on substance abuse and gambling prevention to youth in grades K-12, while complying with OASAS guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Deliver prevention education to youth, grades K-12, through evidence-based programming in a group or classroom setting
- Conduct outreach and attend community and school events to disseminate information on substance misuse and problem gambling
- Provide in-person presentations within the community to increase awareness of prevention education and services
- Complete intake assessment and develop service plans for youth referred to individual prevention services
- Provide brief individual counseling and make necessary referrals
- Maintain records and service data as required by agency, funders and regulators
- Participate in training, in-services and workshops to maintain knowledge in substance use/abuse and gambling prevention
- Attend program meetings and provide program/project reports as assigned
- Promote integrated services within the agency
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with staff of schools, educational agencies, and community-based organizations
Requirements
- Licensed, certified, and/or credentialed in a related discipline (CASAC, CPP, Credentialed Problem Gambling Counselor, Certified Teacher, Certified Health Educator, Certified School Counselor, Certified Rehabilitation counselor, LMSW, LCSW, LMHC, etc.) OR a Bachelor's degree, one (1) year of work experience with youth, and one (1) year of counseling work experience
- Receive clearance from the New York State Central Registry and Statewide Exclusion List
- A valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to pass a driving background check
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or licensed, certified, and/or credentialed in a related discipline
- 1 year of work experience with youth, and 1 year of counseling work experience
