This role will provide visionary leadership and hands-on management to advance LNC's standing as a top leadership program, requiring a blend of strategic thinking and tactical execution. The President will set the organizational direction and work with a small, dedicated team to achieve LNC's mission and vision.
Responsibilities
- Develop and communicate a compelling vision for LNC's future and lead the implementation of Board-approved strategies for sustained growth and impact
- Lead a comprehensive fundraising strategy, cultivating major gifts, securing corporate sponsorships, and writing grants to generate over $1M annually
- Manage, mentor, and support a small professional team, administering HR functions and fostering professional development
- Develop a strong alumni activation plan, transforming the 1,500+ member network into active partners and advocates
- Cultivate and nurture relationships with alumni, program participants, Board of Directors, corporate partners, major donors, and community leaders
- Develop and manage the yearly budget, uphold fiscal responsibility, and create diverse revenue sources for financial health
- Ensure the delivery of cutting-edge leadership programs and identify opportunities for improvement and expansion
- Collaborate effectively with the Board of Directors and Executive Committee, providing strategic advice and operational transparency
- Serve as the primary spokesperson and ambassador for LNC, representing the organization to media, government officials, funders, and business leaders
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience
- 5+ years in senior executive roles (Executive Director, President, CEO, or equivalent)
- Demonstrated success in nonprofit management (leadership, education, or civic engagement organizations)
- Proven track record in fundraising (major gifts $25,000+, corporate partnerships, grant writing, annual fund, special events)
- Experience developing and implementing multi-year strategic plans
- Personal experience with direct solicitation and donor cultivation
- Ability to effectively articulate a persuasive case for support
- Experience managing development programs generating $1M+ annually
- Proven ability to motivate and develop small teams
- Experience with administering human resource functions and goal setting
- Experience managing in collaborative, non-hierarchical environments
- Ability to build high-performing, mission-driven cultures
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to engage diverse groups
- Excellent verbal communication and public speaking skills
- Experience working effectively with volunteer boards and committees
- Deep understanding of North Carolina's political, economic, and social landscapes
- Commitment to a non-partisan approach to leadership and execution
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree; advanced degree (MBA, MPA, or relevant master's or doctorate degree) strongly preferred
- Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience, with at least 5 years in senior executive roles
