About This Role

Perform protective service work as a Police Officer Recruit, patrolling the city, investigating incidents, and responding to calls for service to uphold state and federal laws and departmental policy.

Responsibilities

• Patrol streets, establishments, and residential areas to observe for traffic violations, safety hazards, and suspicious activities
• Investigate accident scenes involving persons or property
• Respond to calls for service regarding various crimes and disputes, resolving them according to law and policy
• Issue citations for traffic and parking violations
• Serve warrants and make arrests
• Investigate suspected crimes and pursue appropriate courses of action
• Maintain appropriate records regarding warrants, investigations, and arrests
• Testify in court and at various legal proceedings
• Direct and control traffic as needed
• Assist motorists with various activities including stalled vehicles

Requirements

• At least eighteen (18) years of age
• Citizen of the United States
• No felony convictions or pleas to certain offenses
• No other than honorable discharge from armed forces
• Fingerprints on file with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation
• Good moral character
• Free of all apparent mental disorders (DSM-II)
• Capable of completing a POST-approved law enforcement training academy within one year of hire
• Pass a thorough background investigation and polygraph examination
• Pass a drug screen, psychological evaluation, physical agility test, and physical examination

Qualifications

• High school diploma, some experience in police work desirable, or a combination of education and experience equivalent to the required knowledge and abilities
• Some experience in police work desirable
